5-2 Applying for Certificate of Institution (Mainly for Bank Account)

The Certificate of Institution is an official document issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to certify the official status of a representative of a Diplomatic Mission or Foreign Office (DMFO). It is mainly used when opening bank accounts or conducting other formal applications that require verification of the mission’s legal and diplomatic status in Taiwan.

If a DMFO wishes to apply for a certificate, they should submit a note verbale or official letter enclosed with the following:

1. Information specifying:

(1) Name of the current head of mission.

(2) Date of assumption of the head of mission.

(3) Telephone and fax numbers of the institution.

(4) Official address of the mission.

2. A copy of the current head of mission’s MOFA ID Card.

If there is any change to any of the abovementioned information, the applying DMFO must submit a note verbale or official letter to notify the change when a new Certificate of Institution is required.
