The Uniform ID number (hereby refers to as UI No.) is a standardized registration number issued by the Ministry of Interiors to foreign nationals residing in Taiwan for accessing government and public services.
I. UI Number and MOFA ID Card Application
First-time applicants for a MOFA ID Card from Diplomatic Missions and Foreign Offices (DMFOs) must submit their UI No. Application Form for Foreign Persons along with their MOFA ID Card application. MOFA will process the UI No. application on their behalf. For further details, please refer to the “1-1 First-Time MOFA ID Card Application” section.
Applicants seeking to obtain a UI No. on their own may submit their application directly to the National Immigration Agency (Click Here). Those who already have UI No. are to provide their UI No. Basic Information Form to the Department of Protocol during the MOFA ID Card application process.
II. Additional Reminders
1. Applicants who require a Chinese name should clearly indicate it on both the UI No. Application Form for Foreign Persons and the Application Form for Identification/Business Tax Exemption (BTE) Card.
2. Any changes to an applicant’s name must be notified to the Department of Protocol so that official records, including the UI No. and MOFA ID Card, can be updated accordingly.
