2-3 Importation of Food Products


I. Notification Requirements

When importing food products, the applying Diplomatic Missions and Foreign Offices (DMFOs) and their eligible staff members must notify the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in advance if either of the following conditions is exceeded for any individual item:

1. The declared customs value of the item exceeds USD 1,000 (or the equivalent in New Taiwan Dollar);

2. The total net weight of the item exceeds 6 kilograms per shipment.

 

II. Required Documents

In addition to the mandatory documents listed under the 2-1 Importation and Exportation of Articles for Official or Personal Use section—including the Application Form, packing list, bill of lading (air waybill), and MOFA ID Card—the following documents must be submitted when the imported items meet notification requirements listed above: 

1. A completed Application for Exemption from Inspection Form;

2. A completed Commodity Information Form.

 

III. Compliance and Use Restrictions

1. The food products should not be intended for sale, distribution, resale, or other commercials purposes. 

2. The importation of food into Taiwan shall be subject to the relevant laws and regulations administered by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA).
