Preparations made to translate Third National Reports on ICCPR and ICESCR into English

On February 15, 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in accordance with the timeline set for the International Review Committee to be convened from January 18 to 22, 2021, started to prepare the English version of Taiwan’s Third National Reports on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). The Mandarin draft has been approved by the Executive Yuan. The English version will be completed once the Ministry of Health and Welfare and other agencies, currently occupied with the COVID-19 outbreak, are able to update human rights-related statistics to the end of December 2019.

The Mandarin and English versions of the Third National Reports on the ICCPR and ICESCR will each comprise four (4) volumes: Common Core Document Forming Part of the Reports; Implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; Implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; and Response to the Concluding Observations and Recommendations Adopted by the International Review Committee. They will be reviewed by international human rights experts to upgrade Taiwan’s ability to ensure human rights and bring its practices into line with international standards.
