Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tien Chung-kwang is leading a delegation to the Cook Islands from November 6 to 13 to attend the Taiwan/Republic of China-Forum Countries Dialogue and other events concurrent with the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting, strengthening Taiwan’s cooperative relations with diplomatic allies in the Pacific and like-minded countries through the forum’s multilateral mechanisms.
During the trip, Deputy Foreign Minister Tien will represent the Taiwan government in interacting with the leaders of its four diplomatic allies in the Pacific and the delegations of other nations. In addition to conveying the importance that Taiwan attaches to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the Pacific region and seeking to advance bilateral cooperation projects with both diplomatic allies and like-minded countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Tien will also further cultivate friendships with high-level officials from Taiwan’s allies so as to consolidate ties and expand Taiwan’s international space.
The PIF is one of the most important international organizations in the Pacific. Taiwan’s diplomatic allies in the Pacific—Palau, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, and Tuvalu—are all members of the PIF. Since 1993, Taiwan has participated as a development partner in various PIF mechanisms and events under the name Taiwan/Republic of China. Taiwan will continue to broaden collaboration with the PIF, diplomatic allies in the Pacific, and other like-minded countries, especially in such areas as climate change, food security, clean energy, and talent cultivation, jointly making contributions to the peace, stability, development, and prosperity of the Pacific region.
