The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has established the Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship to foster academic cooperation and exchange between Taiwanese and European Universities. The program sponsors and encourages European students to undertake exchanges and Mandarin studies in Taiwan through school-to-school cooperation. 

The scholarship is open to all European students wanting to study in Taiwan, including degree and non-degree programs, in Taiwan and is available for all majors and disciplines and not just for learning Mandarin. This program allows the recipients to further pursue their original fields of interest and expertise, while strengthening relations between Taiwan and Europe.

1.  Eligibility

An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

1.1. Is a student currently studying at a European university.

1.2. Is not a citizen of the ROC (Taiwan), China, Hong Kong, or Macao.

1.3. Does not possess overseas Taiwanese compatriot status.

1.4. Will not be concurrently receiving financial support from another government agency or educational institution of Taiwan. 

1.5. Has not previously received a Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship.


2.  Scholarship types

2.1.  Mandarin programs: Monthly stipend of NT$15,000 to NT$25,000 for three months in total.

2.2.  Exchange and degree programs: Monthly stipend of NT$15,000 to NT$25,000 for four or five months in total.

2.3. Some participating universities may waive tuition and/or accommodation fees due to their curriculum design, resulting in differences in actual stipend offered.


3.  Other information

Participating universities set their own timetable and terms for applying to the Taiwan-Europe Connectivity Scholarship program. In general, the application period will be from February to May. For more details, interested students should contact their current universities. 

1.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has established the Taiwan-Europe Semiconductor Scholarship (hereinafter the “scholarship”) to help nurture talent for the semiconductor industries of Central and Eastern European countries and strengthen Taiwan-Europe cooperation on supply chain resilience. 

 

2.Target recipients (hereinafter “recipients”) 

In principle, the scholarship is open to students from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Lithuania who are in their third year or above of an undergraduate program related to semiconductors or are in a related master’s or doctoral program. The scholarship will enable such students to take advanced courses or pursue a degree related to semiconductors in Taiwan. Students from the abovementioned countries with citizenship of China, Hong Kong, or Macao are not eligible.

 

3.Scholarship types and other subsidies

3.1Exchange students and visiting students: For one or two semesters, MOFA will subsidize the recipients’ tuition, administrative fees, and insurance up to NT$60,000 per semester and provide a monthly stipend of NT$30,000. The recipients must study in Taiwan for one or two full semesters in order to be awarded a certificate of attendance.

3.2Master’s degree students: For up to two years, MOFA will subsidize the recipients’ tuition, administrative fees, and insurance up to NT$120,000 annually and provide a monthly stipend of NT$30,000. 

3.3Doctoral degree students: For up to four years, MOFA will subsidize the recipients’ tuition, administrative fees, and insurance up to NT$120,000 annually and provide a monthly stipend of NT$40,000. 

3.4MOFA will subsidize economy-class airline tickets for each recipient up to NT$100,000 (up to NT$50,000 each way). 

3.5Recipients are responsible for all other expenses during their stay in Taiwan. MOFA will not provide any other subsidies.

 

4.Eligibility

An applicant must meet the requirements stipulated in Paragraph 2, as well as the following criteria: 

4.1Has studied a related field at an accredited educational institution in Taiwan or another country for at least two years or has graduated from such a program.

4.2Has never studied in Taiwan at the degree level currently applying for.

4.3Has never had a scholarship revoked by an ROC (Taiwan) government agency or other relevant institution.

4.4Will not be concurrently receiving any other scholarship from an ROC (Taiwan) government agency or educational institution.

 

5.Application process

Participating universities will set their own admission prospectus, application process, and timetable for applying to the Taiwan-Europe Semiconductor Scholarship program in accordance with the program goals and their curriculum design.

2.Target trainees (hereinafter “trainees”)

The program is open to nationals from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, and Kosovo. The scholarship aims to enable them to attend professional semiconductor training programs at the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) or semiconductor research programs run by universities in Taiwan. Students from the abovementioned countries with citizenship of China, Hong Kong, or Macao are not eligible.

 

3.Scholarship subsidy amount

3.1MOFA will subsidize the trainees’ tuition, administrative fees, and accommodation costs and provide a daily stipend of NT$1,000 starting on the day that training begins and ending on the day that training ends. 

3.2MOFA will subsidize economy-class airline tickets for each trainee up to NT$100,000 (up to NT$50,000 each way).

3.3Trainees are responsible for all other expenses during their stay in Taiwan. MOFA will not provide other subsidies. The training period must be continuous and not be interrupted.
