MOFA response to violent attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, at their residence in San Francisco:

Mr. Paul Pelosi—husband of Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Speaker of the US House of Representatives and a staunch supporter of Taiwan—was attacked by an intruder at the couple’s San Francisco home during the early hours of October 28 (Pacific Daylight Time). Mr. Pelosi was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and the attacker was quickly arrested by local police.

The people and government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) were shocked and saddened by the news. President Tsai Ing-wen and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu promptly directed the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco to express Taiwan’s deepest concern and heartfelt sympathies to Speaker Pelosi and her family, as well as wishing Mr. Pelosi a speedy recovery.
