No. 095
On the afternoon of April 23, a tour boat went missing off Hokkaido’s Shiretoko Peninsula in Japan. All those on board were Japanese nationals. A search and rescue operation is still underway, but several deaths have been confirmed by the Japanese authorities.
In response to this tragedy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), immediately expressed its deepest condolences to the Japanese government through the Taipei Office of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association. We pray that the deceased will rest in peace and the bereaved will find timely comfort from their loss.
MOFA and the Sapporo Branch of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan will continue to closely follow the ongoing search and rescue efforts. We hope the operation goes smoothly and that the remaining passengers and crew can be safely rescued.
MOFA again urges nationals traveling abroad to pay attention to their personal safety. In case of emergency, please call the relevant R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission or contact MOFA’s emergency call center for assistance at 0800-085-095. (E)
