Lord Steel leads UK parliamentary delegation to Taiwan

Lord Steel of Aikwood, Co-chair of the British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group at the UK’s House of Lords, is leading a six-member delegation to Taiwan from April 7 to 13 at the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of overall political and economic developments in Taiwan, the Five Plus Two Innovative Industries program, the diplomatic situation, cross-strait relations, prospects for UK-Taiwan economic and trade cooperation, the running of local government, and the promotion of interparliamentary exchanges.

The members will have an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen and call at the National Security Council, the Legislative Yuan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Mainland Affairs Council, the National Development Council, the British Office Taipei, and Taichung City government. In addition to attending a function hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they will also visit sites of economic and cultural interest like the National Palace Museum and Taipei 101. 

The delegation also includes Lord Northbrook, Lord Dholakia, and Lord Rogan of the House of Lords, as well as Marie Rimmer and Rupa Huq of the House of Commons. (E)
