The British Office and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) has briefed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their investigation into Russia's involvement in the poisoning attack of former intelligence agent Sergei Skripal, his daughter, and countless innocent British citizens in Salisbury, UK.

In order to express the government's solemn position on this matter, Minister Wu today summoned Acting Representative Vladislav Kuznetsov from the Representative Office of the MTC in Taipei. Minister Wu expressed the government's condemnation and deep concern over this case.

Minister Wu said Taiwan firmly believes in the value of human rights and rule of law. This incident violates international law and British sovereignty. He said all countries have a shared responsibility to uphold international order and Taiwan respects the responses countries have taken around the world. He called on Russian side to avoid any further actions that would be of detriment to the international community.

Taiwan is opposed to the research, manufacture, and use of chemical weapons. Taiwan is willing to work with the international community in adherence to international treaties, such as the United Nations Chemical Weapons Convention, in order to further stop the spread of chemical weapons.

Taiwan hopes all countries can act consistent to their obligations to the international community.(E)
