United States President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol held a trilateral leaders’ summit at Camp David in Maryland, the United States, on August 18. Following the summit, the leaders issued a joint statement reaffirming the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as an indispensable element of security and prosperity in the international community. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expresses sincere welcome and appreciation that the United States, Japan, and the ROK have publicly reiterated their staunch support of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, having also conveyed this position at the trilateral meeting held in November 2022.

China has repeatedly escalated its coercion and military intimidation of Taiwan on various pretexts. This poses a grave challenge to regional security and has elicited significant concern from the international community. Joint statements issued at several bilateral and multilateral meetings earlier this year have underscored the high degree of international consensus on the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. These events included the US-ROK, US-Canada, US-Japan, and US-Philippines leaders’ meetings and the Group of Seven summit. As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to work steadfastly with the United States, Japan, the ROK, and all like-minded partners to advance regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
