The 59th Inaugural Ceremonies of the President and Vice President of the United States were held on the west front of the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on January 20, 2021. Taiwan’s Representative to the United States Bi-khim Hsiao was formally invited by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies to participate in the inauguration, in order to convey sincere congratulations on behalf of the government to both US President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Vice President Kamala D. Harris.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the inauguration was scaled back out of concern for people’s safety. The invitation to Taiwan’s Representative to the US to attend the Inaugural Ceremonies, the most significant event celebrating US democracy, highlights the close and cordial ties between Taiwan and the United States based on shared values. The government will build on existing solid foundations and work with the Biden administration to further promote exchanges and cooperation in all areas and at all levels, so as to strengthen the comprehensive cooperative partnership between Taiwan and the United States.
