August 31, 2021
No. 26

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 7th Trending Taiwan Short Film Competition is accepting entries from August 31 to October 16. This year, as well as the existing creative/open category, which encourages documentary-style entries, a new brand story category invites participants to think outside the box in highlighting diverse Taiwanese stories, allowing the world an insight into Taiwan’s DNA.

This year’s total prize pool is a record-breaking NT$930,000, with the first-placed entry in the creative category receiving NT$200,000; the two second-placed entries receiving NT$60,000 each; the three third-placed entries receiving NT$30,000 each; and six highly commended entries receiving NT$20,000 each. In the brand story category, the first-placed entry will receive NT$150,000; the second-placed entry will receive NT$100,000; the third-placed entry will receive NT$50,000; and the five highly-commended entries will receive NT$20,000 each.

Whether your skills lie in documentary-style filmmaking or you like to take the path less traveled, make sure you take part in this year’s competition! There are no age or nationality restrictions, so tell us how you see Taiwan and we can help you share your vision with the world.

MOFA started the Trending Taiwan YouTube channel in July of 2015 and since then we’ve received over 800 entries as part of the annual short film competition, with 78 prize winning short films. As with previous years, the winning entries will be subtitled in several languages and promoted around the world on our website and social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.(E)
