The Government of Burkina Faso announced the unilateral termination of diplomatic relations with Taiwan on May 24, 2018. In order to maintain our national sovereignty and dignity, the government of Taiwan has also terminated diplomatic relations with Burkina Faso, effective immediately. Taiwan will cease all aid programs and begin the process of recalling our diplomatic staff, medical and technical teams.
Since enticing São Tomé and Príncipe to switch diplomatic relations in December 2016, China has again worked to end Taiwan’s 24 year diplomatic relationship with Burkina Faso. We condemn China’s actions in the strongest terms. (E)
