The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) takes a positive view of the fact that Honduran Vice Foreign Minister Antonio García has finally acknowledged that the government of Honduras has repeatedly demanded massive amounts of financial aid from Taiwan. The R.O.C. (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) reiterates that since President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento took office in January 2022, Taiwan has actively discussed bilateral cooperation projects with Honduras in accordance with the policy priorities set by the Honduran government. Taiwan has made it clear on multiple occasions that it is willing, within the scope of its foreign aid capabilities, to assist Honduras in promoting national development.
With regards to the Honduran government’s fiscal difficulties, R.O.C. (Taiwan) Ambassador to Honduras Vivia Chun-fei Chang has held numerous consultations, as instructed by MOFA, with the Honduran Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Tah-ray Yui has traveled to Honduras to discuss Taiwan’s proposed assistance with the Honduran government. MOFA has also briefed Honduran Ambassador to Taiwan Harold Burgos several times, requesting that he faithfully convey Taiwan’s sincerity in providing related assistance to the Foreign Ministry of Honduras.
Taiwan has consistently and proactively responded to the Honduran government’s requests to the best of its capabilities. Moreover, Taiwan has never failed to respond to such requests. In fact, the government of Honduras has failed to respond to assistance programs proposed by Taiwan.
