MOFA response to the removal by Twitter of a malicious account claiming that the R.O.C. (Taiwan) government made a donation to U.S. Hudson Institute

April 12, 2023

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release on April 7, refuting disinformation posted on a malicious Twitter account, showing forged documents that falsely claimed that the Taiwan government donated money to the U.S. Hudson Institute in exchange for an award for President Tsai. The MOFA reported the malicious account to Twitter and it was removed today, April 12.

Besides expressing its appreciation to Twitter for fulfilling its social media responsibility to instantly combat disinformation, MOFA once again condemns those with malicious intent who fabricate rumors to manipulate public opinion on the Internet. MOFA also reminds netizens of the importance of media literacy and encourages them to make use of fact-checking mechanisms. It urges people not to easily believe or spread false information and beware of hostile forces conducting cognitive warfare operations against Taiwan.
