Press Release No. 052

On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of China, Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin called at the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei March 24, expressing deep condolences on the passing of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew. After meeting with Mr. Calvin Eu, Singapore’s representative to Taiwan, Minister Lin signed the memorial book at the Singapore Trade Office. He lamented that the ROC has lost an old friend with the death of former Minister Mentor Lee and expressed his expectation that bilateral relations will continue to advance and expand through mutual efforts.

Singapore, one of Taiwan’s top ten trade partners, is the first ASEAN country to sign an economic partnership agreement with Taiwan. The ROC will continue to cooperate with Singapore on the solid foundation of friendly relations built up over the years by the late former Prime Minster Lee and ROC senior government officials. (E)
