The Senate of the Czech Republic on May 29 adopted by an overwhelming majority a resolution endorsing Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Criminal Police Organization, and other world bodies. It has passed a Taiwan-friendly resolution every year since 2021, underscoring the Czech Republic’s high regard and unwavering support for Taiwan’s international involvement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) sincerely welcomes and appreciates this support.

The resolution stated that Czech President Petr Pavel had expressed support for deepening cooperation with Taiwan promptly after he was elected to office and that the Czech government considered Taiwan an important cooperative partner in the Indo-Pacific that could jointly address global issues. Calling Taiwan an exemplary model for peace, cooperation, and unity, the resolution pointed out that Taiwan and the Czech Republic shared democratic values as well as close cooperation across many domains, including investment, high-tech, education, science, culture, and tourism.

During the World Health Assembly General Debate on May 28, Czech Deputy Minister of Health Radek Policar said that the principle of equality should be respected, that health was a universal right, and that the Czech Republic fully supported the WHA’s granting observer status to Taiwan. MOFA deeply appreciates the Czech government’s clear expression and actions backing Taiwan at the WHA.

MOFA will continue to engage in close, comprehensive cooperation with the Czech government to benefit the people of both countries and jointly contribute to global peace, prosperity, and stability. (E)
