The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) held a ceremony to mark a humanitarian shipment of 27 tons of medical supplies to Ukraine on the evening of February 28. The donation was coordinated by the Executive Yuan and jointly conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Finance’s Customs Administration. Departing from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 23:50 on February 28 on a China Airlines flight to Frankfurt, Germany, the shipment of medicine and medical devices will subsequently be delivered to Ukraine via appropriate routes and channels.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine that began on February 24 has forced more than 300,000 Ukrainians to flee the country. By United Nations estimates, seven million Ukrainians have been displaced, and 18 million will need humanitarian assistance should the military conflict continue. As a member of the international democratic community, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is glad to be providing timely emergency medical supplies to Ukraine on the basis of humanitarian considerations and in the spirit that Taiwan can help.
