No. 189
A delegation from the Hungarian National Assembly, consisting of Mr. István Tiba, Ms. Mónika Bartos, and Mr. Máriusz Révész, all of whom are members of the Hungary-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Association, will visit Taiwan from August 28 through September 1, 2016, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The delegation will call on President of the Legislative Yuan Su Jia-chyuan and attend a luncheon hosted by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chih-Chung Wu. Members will also call at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Council of Agriculture, Hungarian Trade Office, Hsinchu City government, Hsinchu Science Park, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Institute for Information Industry, Taipei Computer Association, and Taiwan External Trade Development Council.
In addition, the delegation will visit the National Palace Museum, a number of high-tech firms, Lanyang Museum, and a whisky distillery.
This trip will provide the delegation with a better understanding of recent political, economic, and social developments in Taiwan, and help open up new avenues of cooperation in such areas as trade and agriculture to the benefit of both countries.
With nearly 30 members, the Hungary-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Association is one of the largest bilateral friendship groups in the Hungarian National Assembly, and has been a staunch supporter of increased substantive exchanges and cooperation between Hungary and Taiwan. To further enhance ties, the two countries have in recent years signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation, an agreement on avoidance of double taxation, and an arrangement on a working holiday scheme.
