The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) lodged a strong protest with the Kenyan government for deporting five acquitted ROC nationals to mainland China August 7.

The Kenyan government’s action, in response to pressure from Beijing, ignores the Kenyan court’s acquittal of the ROC suspects on charges of telecommunications fraud and instructions to repatriate them to Taiwan.

Following the court verdict August 5, the ROC representative office in South Africa demanded that the Kenyan government uphold the court’s ruling and sought assistance from international media and human rights groups. Despite these efforts, the Kenyan authorities still deported the five ROC nationals to mainland China.

MOFA, the Mainland Affairs Council, and the Ministry of Justice are maintaining close contact in order to uphold the rights of these ROC nationals through cross-strait consultation channels. (E)
