The ROC government welcomes the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s statement on the meeting between President Ma Ying-jeou and mainland Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Singapore on November 7:
La France salue la rencontre historique qui s’est déroulée aujourd’hui entre MM. XI Jinping et MA Ying-jeou. Elle rappelle son soutien à la paix, au dialogue et à la coopération, auxquels cette rencontre apporte une contribution importante. (France welcomes the historic meeting that took place today between Mr. Xi Jinping and Mr. Ma Ying-jeou. It reiterates its support for peace, dialogue, and cooperation, to which this meeting has significantly contributed.)
France’s statement reflects its long encouragement of peace and dialogue in the Taiwan Strait and proves that progress in cross-strait ties not only benefits regional peace and stability, but also is in France’s interests. (E)
