A six-member delegation of the Junge Union from Germany led by Dr. Alexander Wolf, director of Hanns Seidel Stiftung, is visiting Taiwan from November 5 to 9 at the invitation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) government. The trip will give the delegation a better understanding of Taiwan’s political and economic developments as well as its relations with mainland China.

The visitors will call at the Legislative Yuan, National Development Council, Mainland Affairs Council, German Institute Taipei, and European Union Centre in Taiwan. Their itinerary also includes visits to a number of iconic sites representative of Taiwan’s cultural and economic development, such as Hsinchu Science Park, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, Lungshan Temple, and Taroko National Park. The visitors will participate in the 15th National Prayer Breakfast and the National Prayer Breakfast for Youth on November 7.

The Junge Union was established in 1947 and is now Germany’s largest youth political organization, with more than 120,000 members between the ages of 14 and 35. It is a cradle for nurturing the German politicians of the future. Several members who had held important party positions at the federal or state levels are currently serving as parliamentarians, federal ministers, or state minister-presidents or cabinet members. (E)
