No. 116

Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Taipei Office Kin Moy presented a letter June 15 to Coordination Council for North American Affairs Chair Katherine Chang Hsiao-yueh affirming the renewal of Taiwan’s US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) designation. MOFA welcomes this development.

The US conducts designation reviews of its VWP members every two years to ensure that they meet key security and information-sharing requirements. Following the ROC’s inclusion in the VWP in November 2012, MOFA and related agencies cooperated with US officials sent to Taiwan for the review, which was successfully completed in 2014, to assure that ROC nationals continue to enjoy this privilege. The US thus recently conveyed the official notification to the ROC that its VWP designation has been continued.

The ROC’s VWP membership was the result of a joint effort by the government and people, and has been welcomed by its nationals. MOFA will continue to work with other government agencies to see to it that the ROC remains in compliance with VWP program requirements. (E)
