A four-member delegation led by Mr. Jiří Běhounek, President of the Vysočina Region and Member of Parliament of the Czech Republic, is visiting the Republic of China from May 1 to May 6, 2015, at the invitation of the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This trip, President Běhounek’s second to Taiwan, is expected to provide the delegation a better understanding of current trends in Taiwan’s politics, economy, science and technology, healthcare, and higher education, as well as developments in cross-strait relations, thus further promoting cultural, education, tourism, and trade exchanges between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.

ROC Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Vanessa Y. P. Shih will host a luncheon for the delegation. The members will also call at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, National Health Insurance Administration, Tainan City Government, Southern Taiwan Science Park, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei Medical University Hospital, Taiwan Power Company, Institute for Information Industry, and Tatung Company. In addition, they will visit Taipei 101, Yangmingshan National Park, Tainan Confucius Temple, Fort Provintia, Shilin Night Market, and other cultural sites of interest.

Both the ROC and the Czech Republic highly value democracy and freedom, as well as their deep friendship. Currently many high-tech companies from Taiwan are investing in the Czech Republic, thereby strengthening bilateral relations. Vysočina Region has already established cooperation with Taiwan in such fields as IT applications and smart energy management. The region brims with tourist destinations, including three UNESCO World Heritage sites. (E)
