Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin extends condolences to the Saudi Arabian Trade Office on the passing of King Abdullah

On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of China, Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin called at the Saudi Arabian Trade Office January 26 to pay condolences to the government and people of Saudi Arabia on the passing of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Accompanied by Wang Chien-yeh, Director-General of the Department of West Asian and African Affairs, Minister Lin also signed the memorial book when visiting with Representative Talat Ebrahim A. Almuslemani.

Two days beforehand, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon S. Y. Ko led a delegation to Saudi Arabia to officially extend condolences to and make the acquaintance of the new monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. The delegation included Dr. Chao Shi-lin, a former ROC representative to Saudi Arabia and a current member of the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League.

When speaking with Representative Almuslemani, Minister Lin expressed deep appreciation for the assistance and conveniences provided to the ROC delegation, which was granted an audience with the new king. The ROC hopes to work with Saudi Arabia to further strengthen the substantive relations between the countries. (E)
