In a joint communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 16th Conference of Foreign Ministers of the Mixed Commission for Cooperation between the Countries of the Central American Isthmus and the Republic of China, which was held in Belize on December 15, the attending Central American nations expressed support for the ROC’s efforts to expand its participation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the World Health Organization, and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

ROC diplomatic allies also reiterated that conflicts should be resolved peacefully in accordance with international law, recognizing initiatives that contribute to maintaining and advancing peace, cooperation, and international security. They thereby echoed the spirit of the East China Sea Peace Initiative proposed by ROC President Ma Ying-jeou.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic was formally invited to join the ROC-Central American Economic Development Fund and take part in the operations of the Central America Trade Office.

The conference was jointly chaired by ROC Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin and Belizean Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington, and was attended by the foreign ministers of El Salvador, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, deputy foreign ministers of Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Panama, as well as the Secretary General of the Central American Integration System.
