President Russ Joseph Kun and the first lady of the Republic of Nauru will lead a delegation to Taiwan from October 8 to 12 at the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). They will attend the National Day celebrations, underscoring their high regard for the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Nauru and their staunch support for Taiwan.
The 17-member delegation led by President Kun will comprise key officials and members of parliament, including Minister for Education Richard-Hyde Menke, Deputy Minister for Land Management Jason Bingham Agir, Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Dominic Joselito Tabuna, and parliamentarians Shadlog Armait Bernicke and Charmaine Eraidinomo Scotty. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) warmly welcomes their visit.
During his stay, President Kun will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, participate in a series of National Day celebrations, and deliver an opening address to the seventh Yushan Forum. He will also attend receptions hosted by President Tsai and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu to exchange views on bilateral cooperation.
Taiwan and Nauru, a diplomatic ally in the Pacific region, enjoy a robust and cordial partnership. Over the years, the government of Nauru has strongly endorsed Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, including the United Nations, World Health Organization, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and International Civil Aviation Organization. The two countries engage in close and effective cooperation in such areas as basic infrastructure, public health and medicine, climate change, clean energy, ICT, agriculture, fisheries, education, and maritime patrols.
