On May 3, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) held a signing ceremony for the Agreement on a Working Holiday Scheme between Taiwan and Israel. The agreement was signed in two different locations—by Representative Abby Ya-ping Lee of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv and Representative Omer Caspi of the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei. Representative Caspi completed the signing at MOFA on May 3, witnessed by Ambassador Anthony Chung-yi Ho, Director General of MOFA’s Department of West Asian and African Affairs.

The agreement is the 18th working holiday scheme facilitated by MOFA and the 32nd bilateral cooperation arrangement between Taiwan and Israel. Under the terms of the initiative, Taiwan and Israel will each offer up to 200 young people aged 18 to 30 the opportunity to work in each other’s countries for one year. The program will give participants the chance to learn about and appreciate each other’s cultures by experiencing life in another country. Information on when the agreement will come into effect and how to apply will be released after the two governments complete subsequent internal procedures.

This year coincides with the 30th anniversary of Taiwan and Israel mutually establishing representative offices. As well as sharing the universal values of democracy, freedom, and human rights, the countries also particularly value youth exchanges. MOFA is confident that the signing and implementation of the agreement will further promote exchanges among young people and deepen bilateral friendship and cooperation. Based on the present solid foundation, MOFA will continue to develop partnership initiatives between Taiwan and Israel. (E)
