Taiwan commends and supports the efforts of the United States and North Korea to reduce tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in East Asia through rational dialogue. The US President Donald J. Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reached a consensus on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the establishment of a new relationship, as well as signing a joint statement, among other issues in a summit held in Singapore on June 12.

The summit has created a new opportunity through which to initiate the peaceful resolution of issues on the Korean Peninsula, and is of great significance to the peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region. As an important member of the regional community, Taiwan hopes that the parties concerned will take into account the interests of all countries in the region, ultimately achieving the goal of the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and establishing a sustainable and stable peace.

To track related developments as closely as possible, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing to enhance dialogue and communications with the relevant countries through an interministerial task force. The ROC government reiterates that Taiwan is willing to work with the international community in striving to promote peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region. (E)
