The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes Mr. Axel Fischer, member of the Budget Committee and the Taipei-Berlin Parliamentary Circle of Friends group in the German Bundestag, as well as Carsten Müller, member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy, and Peter Aumer, member of the Committee on Labour and Social Affairs, who were invited to visit Taiwan from May 7 to 11.

The delegation aims to better understand political, economic, and social developments in Taiwan, as well as cross-strait relations. They will exchange views with relevant government agencies on Taiwan’s renewable energy and plastic reduction policies, the development of offshore wind power, and Taiwan’s international participation. They will also call on President of the Legislative Yuan Su Jia-chyuan, and call at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Environmental Protection Administration, the National Development Council, the Mainland Affairs Council, the Bureau of Energy at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Foundation of Medical Professionals Alliance in Taiwan. They will also attend a luncheon held for them at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as visit the National Palace Museum and other sites of economic and cultural interest.

Germany is Taiwan’s largest trading partner in Europe, while Taiwan is Germany’s fifth-largest trading partner in Asia, with bilateral trade reaching US$15.7 billion last year. Germany and Taiwan have enjoyed robust exchanges in such areas as the economy and trade, investment, technology, culture, and tourism, and bilateral ties continue to grow steadily. (E)
