ROC nationals are now eligible for visa waivers, landing visas, or other preferential visa treatment from five additional countries or areas, bringing the total to 153.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has confirmed that ROC passport holders will be granted landing visas from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Liberia, and Djibouti, and e-visas from Gabon.

Visa requirements for ROC citizens traveling to the five countries are as follows:

Kazakhstan: A standard passport that is valid for at least six months; a return (or onward) ticket; an invitation (issued by a Kazakh company or travel agency) that has been approved by the Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs; arrival at an authorized port of entry—Almaty, Astana, Aktau, Atyrau, or Uralsk; and a visa fee (about US$80).
Applicants will be issued a single-entry tourist or business visa for a stay of up to 30 days. MOFA advises citizens to check, upon receiving their visas, the length of stay granted and the date of their departure. Should they have any enquiries, they may request clarification from Kazakhstan’s immigration officials to protect their rights and interests.

Tajikistan: A standard passport that is valid for at least six months; a return (or onward) ticket; two photos (passport size, 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm); a photocopy of the passport; a completed application form and a visa fee (US$35) to be submitted on arrival. Invitations are not required for tourist visas. Applicants will be issued a landing visa for a stay of up to 45 days. MOFA advises citizens, upon receiving their visas, to check the length of stay granted and the date of their departure. Should they have any enquiries, they may request clarification from Tajikistan’s immigration officials to protect their rights and interests.

Liberia: A digital copy of the personal information page (that includes the bearer’s ID number) of the passport which must be valid for at least six months, to be emailed to taiwanvisaapp@mofa.gov.lr seven days prior to arrival; a completed application form; and a visa fee (US$100) on arrival at the airport. Applicants will receive a visa for a stay of seven to 30 days.

Djibouti: A passport that is valid for at least six months; a return ticket; hotel reservation records; and a single-entry landing visa application fee of US$90 for a stay of up to one month, or US$120 for a stay of more than one month, to be submitted on arrival. Emergency or temporary passport holders are required to submit an invitation form and the contact information of a local party.

Gabon: A passport that is valid for at least six months; an e-visa issued online by the Gabon Directorate General of Documentation and Immigration; a return or onward ticket; hotel reservation records (or invitation); and a visa application fee of €70 for a stay of up to three months, to be submitted on arrival. Travelers arriving without any one of these documents may be denied entry. Given the ongoing Ebola situation in western Africa, Gabon does not allow entry or flight transfer for anyone arriving from Guinea, Liberia, or Sierra Leone.

MOFA reminds citizens to ensure their personal safety and abide by local laws during their stay in these countries. In case of emergency, assistance may be sought from an ROC embassy or representative office in the region—Russia and Turkey (if in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan), Nigeria (if in Liberia), Saudi Arabia (if in Djibouti), and São Tomé and Príncipe (if in Gabon). They may also call the MOFA emergency hotline at +886-800-085-095. (E)
