The government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) announced on April 11 that it would donate US$500,000 to assist with Taiwan’s reconstruction efforts following the earthquake in Hualien. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) sincerely thanks the ROK government and Representative Lee Eun Ho of the Korean Mission in Taipei for their concern as well as the generous donation to assist with postdisaster reconstruction.

When major disasters occur in Taiwan, the ROK government always extends timely assistance, demonstrating empathy and compassion. For instance, in the aftermath of a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck southern Taiwan in February 2016, the ROK government donated US$100,000 to support rescue, relief, and reconstruction efforts.

MOFA reiterates its profound gratitude to the ROK government for its heartfelt condolences and assistance to Taiwan. MOFA hopes that the goodwill between Taiwan and the ROK will only continue to grow, laying a solid foundation for mutual assistance and cooperation in the international community. (E)
