United States House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued a statement on August 2 emphasizing that “America stands with Taiwan as it defends itself and its freedom.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) sincerely appreciates Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s long-standing support for Taiwan.
In recent years, friends from all sectors of the United States and other democratic nations have shown their concrete support and friendship for Taiwan. This demonstrates that defending democracy and freedom in Taiwan and preserving peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are matters of shared international concern and consensus.
As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan is committed to working steadfastly with members to jointly defend the universal values of democracy, freedom, and human rights, as well as uphold the rules-based international order. This will ensure the status quo of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in the Indo-Pacific and promote continued global economic prosperity and development. (E)
