Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi stated on March 24 that from the standpoint of relations across the Taiwan Strait and regional peace and stability, Japan is paying close attention to Honduras’s dispatch of its foreign minister to China to discuss the establishment of diplomatic relations and its impact. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expresses deep appreciation for Japan’s concern.

Foreign Minister Hayashi said during a press conference that Japan has communicated its views on the matter to the government of Honduras multiple times. He reaffirmed that Japan shares core values with Taiwan, that Taiwan is an extremely important partner and friend, and that Japan has consistently supported Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly as an observer.

MOFA appreciates that democratic countries are paying careful attention to relations across the Taiwan Strait and to Taiwan’s diplomatic ties. Taiwan will continue to deepen comprehensive cooperation with like-minded nations to jointly safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
