Concerning the approval of the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022 by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, MOFA responds as follows:
September 15, 2022
On September 14 (US Eastern Time), the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations approved the bill for the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022, conveying staunch support for such key issues as the comprehensive upgrading of Taiwan-US relations, the strengthening of Taiwan-US security and economic and trade ties, Taiwan’s international participation, and the countering of China’s coercive tactics. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expresses its sincerest appreciation to the US Congress for once again taking concrete actions that demonstrate bipartisan friendship and support for Taiwan. MOFA also thanks Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and senior Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who introduced the bill, for their proactive leadership throughout this process.
MOFA will continue to pay close attention to the Taiwan Policy Act as matters develop further, and communicate closely with the US Congress and executive branch. It hopes that this legislation can be advanced within the limited time available during the current meeting of the 117th US Congress, thus deepening the Taiwan-US partnership and ensuring the freedom, openness, peace, and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
