The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declares that a recent twitter exchange purporting to be with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on its twitter feed is false information.

In response to foreign media reports that MOFA did not recognize Ukrainian President Zelenskyy when he allegedly tweeted support for Taiwan on the MOFA twitter feed, MOFA clarifies as follows:

The MOFA tweeted to condemn China’s military exercises on August 4. A screenshot of a fake dialogue appeared in the comments on August 6, comprising a message “Taiwan, we're with you!” from an account called Володимир Зеленьский, the same name as Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, and a response from MOFA “Who are you?”

Screenshots of the dialogue were immediately suspected by netizens as being photoshopped and the screenshot was reconstructed with the same technique to prove that it was not a real screenshot. The MOFA also left a comment stating that it was false information.

Recently, some foreign media that did not know this was a faked screenshot reported that the MOFA did not recognize President Zelenskyy on its twitter feed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thus clarifies that the above-mentioned twitter exchange never took place and the comments were purely faked screenshots of photoshopped images. The MOFA also suggests this disinformation should not be disseminated in order to avoid unnecessary presumption or misunderstanding.
