To encourage participation and allow entrants to begin collecting footage, MOFA is making an early call for entries for the 6th Trending Taiwan Short Film Competition. As well as the creative category of previous years, this year we’re adding a special prize for short films which deal with Taiwan’s pandemic prevention measures against the COVID-19 virus, inviting budding Taiwanese and foreign filmmakers to showcase Taiwan’s efforts and achievements in this regard.
Judging criteria will include the creativity of the script, the subject matter, the narrative style and editing skills, and the prize pool is a total of NT$830,000, divided as below:
In the creative category, one first-placed entry will receive NT$200,000; two second-placed entries will receive NT$60,000 each; three third-placed entries will receive NT$30,000 each; and six high-commended entries will receive NT$20,000 each. In the epidemic prevention category, there will be a Taiwanese category and an international category, with three prizes being awarded in each, NT$80,000 for first place, NT$50,000 for second place and NT$20,000 for third place. MOFA will subtitle the winning entries in several languages and showcase them to the world on Trending Taiwan’s YouTube channel to raise Taiwan’s profile in the international community.
There is no age limit or restriction based on nationality and works submitted must be original. Films should not exceed three minutes in length (including title and credits if included) and should have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p).
MOFA advises those interested to make the best use of their time, and start planning their subject matter and script now, before the competition is officially launched at the end of June. (E)
