Newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Honduras to the Republic of China (Taiwan), Rafael Fernando Sierra Quesada, presented a copy of his letter of credence to Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin on January 21, having arrived in Taiwan the day before. Minister Lin and Ambassador Sierra used the occasion to exchange opinions on a wide range of issues of mutual concern.

After welcoming him, Minister Lin pointed out that, since Ambassador Sierra had come to Taiwan in November 2014 to attend the TaiwanICDF Workshop on Development of Information and Communications Technology, he has a good grasp of the various political and economic developments in Taiwan. Minister Lin therefore expressed his confidence that the close and cordial relations between the ROC and Honduras would continue to deepen, and hoped that the two countries could strengthen cooperation in many areas, such as the economy and trade.

Ambassador Sierra conveyed his government’s heartfelt appreciation for the longstanding national development assistance that the ROC has provided to Honduras. He underlined that his designation by President Juan Orlando Hernández as Ambassador to the ROC symbolizes the cordial and stable relations between the two countries. He went on to say that he was honored to take up the role, and would use it to the best of his abilities to further develop bilateral ties.

Ambassador Sierra is a promising young diplomat who is well versed in government matters having served at the Ministry of the Interior and Justice, the Honduran Embassy in Washington, the National Congress, and the National Commission of Telecommunications. The ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged for Ambassador Sierra to present his credentials to President Ma Ying-jeou. (E)
