MOFA expresses sincere condolences to Guatemala following recent destruction caused by heavy rainfall

Guatemala was recently hit by heavy rainfall, which resulted in injuries and fatalities, as well as damage to roads, bridges, and other basic infrastructure. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expresses its sincere condolences and hopes that local people’s lives will return to normal as soon as possible.

 

Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo declared a nationwide state of public calamity due to the devastation caused by days of heavy rainfall. According to the latest information available to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy in Guatemala, no Taiwanese tourists, overseas students, or expatriates have been affected by the disaster. MOFA and the embassy will continue to closely follow developments, maintain contact with the relevant Guatemalan agencies, and provide necessary assistance in a timely manner.
