A deadly crush occurred during a religious gathering in Hathras District, Uttar Pradesh, India, on July 2, resulting in over 100 casualties. On behalf of the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) promptly contacted Director General of the India-Taipei Association Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav to convey its sincere condolences and deepest concerns to the families of the victims, as well as its hopes that the injured would recover as soon as possible. MOFA also directed the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) to express condolences to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
According to information currently available to the TECC, no Taiwanese tourists, overseas students, or expatriates are among the dead or injured. MOFA and the TECC will continue to closely follow developments, maintain contact with the relevant Indian agencies, and provide necessary assistance in a timely manner.
