Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung held a banquet for a Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis delegation led by Prime Minister Terrance Drew and Madam Diani Prince-Drew on the evening of June 24. Minister Lin extended Taiwan’s sincere welcome and thanked Saint Christopher and Nevis for its support for Taiwan’s international participation.
As he welcomed Prime Minister Drew, Madam Prince-Drew, and their delegation to Taiwan, Minister Lin observed that many years of collaboration between Taiwan and Saint Christopher and Nevis had yielded fruitful results in areas including education, agriculture, science and technology, and sustainable development. He said that going forward, Taiwan would continue to work with Saint Christopher and Nevis to expand cooperation, particularly in issues of concern to Prime Minister Drew, such as renewable energy and public health and medicine. Minister Lin said that continuing to deepen cooperation would advance the welfare of people in both nations.
Thanking the government of Taiwan for the attention it had paid to arranging his delegation’s itinerary, Prime Minister Drew said that the strong diplomatic relationship the two nations had enjoyed for more than 40 years was founded on the shared values of democracy, freedom, and respect for human rights. He thanked Taiwan for its assistance in various fields and said he looked forward to cooperating on such matters as renewable energy and public health and medicine. Prime Minister Drew added that Saint Christopher and Nevis would continue to support Taiwan’s international participation and express its staunch opposition to any military coercion that jeopardized Taiwan’s peace and security.
Prime Minister Drew, Madam Prince-Drew, and their party arrived in Taiwan on June 22. Their visit is scheduled to conclude on June 26. (E)
