The US Department of State on May 15 published a joint statement on the 51st session of the United States-Portugal Standing Bilateral Commission held on the previous day. According to the statement, the two sides exchanged views on the challenges faced by the Indo-Pacific region, reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and stressed that cross-strait differences should be resolved exclusively by peaceful means.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) sincerely welcomes and appreciates that the United States continues expressing concern over developments across the Taiwan Strait with like-minded nations.

As a responsible member of the global village, Taiwan will further enhance cooperation with like-minded democratic partners to safeguard the rules-based international order and promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
