The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expresses its sincere appreciation to the Japanese government for the generous donation and for its concern and assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake.
Taiwan and Japan lend a helping hand to each other when major disasters occur. In the wake of the Hualien earthquake, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, and people from all sectors of society promptly extended their condolences. They said that Taiwan was an important friend of Japan and that they were willing to provide all necessary assistance. In addition, local governments and private citizens in Japan have proactively initiated fund-raising campaigns, fully demonstrating the supportive and valuable friendship between Taiwan and Japan.
MOFA reiterates its profound gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their heartfelt condolences and assistance. The donation from Japan will be used by relevant agencies to help rebuild affected areas. MOFA hopes that the goodwill between Taiwan and Japan will only continue to grow, laying a solid foundation for mutual assistance and cooperation in the international community. (E)
