Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić falsely claimed that Taiwan belonged to China in an interview with the Chinese state-run China Global Television Network on February 26.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) solemnly reiterates that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is an independent and sovereign country, that neither the R.O.C. (Taiwan) nor the People’s Republic of China is subordinate to the other, and that the PRC has never governed Taiwan—not even for a single day. No distorted narrative regarding Taiwan’s sovereign status can change the status quo across the Taiwan Strait or internationally recognized objective facts.
Taiwan successfully completed its presidential election on January 13, once again showcasing its mature and stable democracy and garnering widespread international recognition. Taiwan will continue to steadfastly uphold the values of democracy and freedom and work proactively with diplomatic allies and like-minded countries to jointly safeguard democracy, peace, and stability in the region and across the globe.
