Days of heavy rain in the southern Philippines have resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people and have impacted over 810,000 residents. The heavy rains also triggered a disastrous landslide in a mining community in the province of Davao de Oro in southern Mindanao. Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
Similar to the Philippines, Taiwan often suffers from natural disasters. On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Ambassador Wallace Minn-gan Chow, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, expressed sincere condolences to Silvestre H. Bello III, Chairman and Resident Representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan.
According to information available to TECO in the Philippines, all Taiwanese businesspeople and expatriates in the area are currently safe. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and TECO in the Philippines will continue to closely monitor developments and maintain contact with the relevant Philippine government agencies to provide necessary assistance in a timely manner.
