Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting in San Francisco on November 17. During the meeting, Prime Minister Kishida restressed that peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait were extremely important to Japan and the international community. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) sincerely welcomes and appreciates Prime Minister Kishida’s reaffirmation of strong support for cross-strait peace.
China’s authoritarian expansionism has seriously affected regional security in recent years, triggering a high level of concern and alarm among neighboring countries and the rest of the international community. The government of Japan has repeatedly underlined its support for cross-strait peace at major international events. This year, joint statements following bilateral and multilateral meetings including the US-Japan, US-Japan-ROK, and G7 summits have all raised the importance of peace across the Taiwan Strait. This demonstrates the high level of consensus in the international community on maintaining cross-strait peace and stability.
As a responsible and important member of the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan is actively enhancing its self-defense. It also continues to deepen cooperation with Japan, the United States, the European Union, and other like-minded countries to jointly uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific and preserve global peace, stability, and prosperity.
