In the afternoon of October 25, the United States House of Representatives elected as its speaker House Republican Conference Vice Chairman Mike Johnson (R-LA).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) extends its most sincere congratulations to Speaker Johnson and hopes that the cordial relations between Taiwan and the United States will continue to deepen through close cooperation with the House of Representatives under his leadership.
Taiwan and the United States share the core values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. In recent years through bilateral efforts, cooperation has continued to break new ground in a wide range of areas, including politics, security, economics, and trade. Bipartisan support in the US Congress has always served as the foundation for the Taiwan-US partnership. Since the beginning of its 118th session, Congress has raised over 50 Taiwan-related bills and resolutions, demonstrating the strength of its support for Taiwan.
Over the remainder of the 118th Congress, MOFA looks forward to working together with Speaker Johnson and other friendly members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to actively promote Taiwan-US relations and jointly advance peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
