No. 351
The Taipei Representative Office in Italy-Milan Office was officially inaugurated on October 16, opening a new chapter in exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Italy. The office is headed by Director General Riccardo Tsan-nan Lin, who previously served as deputy representative to Italy.
Attending the opening reception of the Milan Office to extend congratulations were Vice President of the Senate Gian Marco Centinaio, who visited Taiwan in June, and Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Affairs Committee Paolo Formentini, among others.
In prerecorded remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu commended Taiwan-Italy relations for having grown rapidly in recent years, with exchanges in the economy, trade, industry, technology, culture, academia, and other domains being close. He noted that Italy was Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner in the European Union and that the launch of the Taipei-Milan direct flight by EVA Air, the expansion of GlobalWafers in northern Italy, and other investment projects in recent years were all concrete evidence of the growing economic, trade, and investment ties between the two countries. Minister Wu added that the Italian parliament passed three resolutions in support of Taiwan in 2022, which urged the Italian government to keep abreast of developments in the Indo-Pacific region and across the Taiwan Strait and to back Taiwan’s international participation. He further commented that the opening of the Milan Office would strengthen the linkages between Taiwan and northern Italy and significantly increase bilateral economic and trade exchanges.
The Milan Office will provide services with respect to commerce, tourism, and overseas compatriot affairs, as well as emergency assistance to Taiwanese nationals, in the eight administrative regions of northern Italy. It will work closely with the Taipei Representative Office in Italy to further advance comprehensive and substantive cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.
