President of the United States Joe Biden and President of the Philippines Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met in Washington, DC, on May 1. Afterward, the two leaders issued a statement reaffirming the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as an indispensable element of global security and prosperity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) welcomes and appreciates this statement.

Since 2022, China has repeatedly and unjustifiably escalated coercion and military intimidation against Taiwan, posing a serious challenge to regional security and stability and eliciting a high level of concern from the international community. The US-Philippine leaders’ joint statement follows an earlier statement issued on April 11 after the US-Philippines 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, once again reiterating that peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are of significance to global interests and underscoring the high degree of consensus among countries in the region on preserving cross-strait peace and stability.

MOFA will continue to cooperate with the United States and other like-minded partners to safeguard democratic values and ensure peace, stability, and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and the region.
